But sometimes even the news of a retirement can sink a fond heart… I don’t want to go into any kind of detail or fabricate in any way because it’s not what I do, I only relay facts and thoughts from within. I’m more a celebrator of people and their creative achievements and endeavors.

So without going into too much detail I want to let people know that from what has been written and read on the Twitter feed of ‘Mystro aka MysDiggi’, the news is that the groundbreaking underground artist has stepped away from live shows which could mean we hear no more new material and see no more videos.

If like many you never saw him perform live which in turn meant you didn’t see how this professional mic controller worked a crowd, then I really do feel that you have missed an innovator at work. From his ‘Mystro Investigates’ series, to his 3 ‘UK Rap Up’ offerings and the number of great releases & videos you can see at the website www.mysdiggi.com. Mystro has grafted and grinded for some years, giving his all to the UK scene, making a great name in Australia and doing virals for the likes of Blackberry, telling it like it is on the BBC Breakfast Show when the London riots were on and working within the scene to make it great.

I could go on dragging details from Wikipedia and other places but that just ain’t me. I’m a DJ who loves nothing but good music, a man who has been fortunate enough to spin for Mystro on a couple of occasions, a person who has found a great friend in Mysdiggi over the last few years.

I wear my heart on my sleeve as they say and I don’t mind saying in public that I will miss my friend if the last gig he did was to be his final involvement in the this here game that is Hip-Hop… I seriously hope it wasn’t but if so then I hope that fans of music keep buying his material, watching his videos and clocking up the views because Mystro has been setting a standard for a long time… all you MC’s need to recognise.

It was only the other day when my man Chief Wigz said to me in conversation regarding performing for a crowd “it’s like when Mystro comes on… you know he’s on .. the atmosphere changes”. That is the performer I know and love, he deserves greatness but without respect, support and the right doors opening a performer will only take it so far.

Up Popp’s Mury P .. the MZA, the DZA .. the old curly bastard… with a totally disturbing method, man don’t know ‘Where It’s Heading’.

Blood baths and muddy boots, leaves, trees and an unsuspecting victim just taking a stroll. Unbeknownst to this wandering dude is that the internal hate and anguish that lives inside Mury P is gonna have him hung, drawn and cut into quarters.

Raising a bar, telling a tale and all put together in classic black ‘n’ white footage… the man himself has edited the video which is impressive and a true hands on ‘I know what it’s gotta look like’ statement. This new material (from a dude who is like the brother with matching curly hair that I never got), is his baby. Dragged from the depths of a tortured yet vibrant soul, a sick and just about stable human being walking the tightrope of insanity. Listening only makes you question whether it is us missing something… so if you find reality a little hard to handle .. turn away now.

Kind of fitting then you will agree, that his next single is called ‘Fuck You All’ (and features myself, it’s BiG).

Spida Lee | Break it Down feat DJ esSDee

Now if you are a frequent reader you’ll know that I have a massive amount of respect for the label and the artists on it. One of these artists goes by the name of Spida Lee… a true gent, true performer and true 90′s Hip-Hop kid like myself.

This material that he’s putting out echoes that and draws from everything that makes Hip-Hop an amazing lifestyle to embrace. Lee himself is the ultimate performer on stage and not only knows how to work a crowd but makes people leave a venue with their moneys worth. As well as having a great belief in what he is doing underneath his oversized puffer jacket lives a super respectable human being with nothing but time for all around him completing the ingredients needed to push on and see people embrace him and his lyrical  skills that live in all content he releases.

It’s been a pleasure working with the Don’t Talk to Strangers label once again and just as much of one working alongside Spida Lee.

Initially, as I told her there and then, I was taken aback due to her being female. Now I know that may seem sexist to some of you but when you submerse yourself in the deep waters of Hip-Hop and go by a name that doesn’t explain that you are a lady, then it’s almost a given that you are of the hairy, size 8 feet, ball grabbing kind.

So Charlotte ‘aka PIGLET’, started talking to me about her art, vision and why she chose to illustrate Hip-Hop greats. Although hard to summon up in this digital age that we are in, Charlotte’s style is unique. Simple one colour designs that are developed in black on a white background adorn cotton and canvas. ABOUT CHARLOTTE and her Oink Range by PIGLET:

 Charlotte grew up to the lyrics and vibrations of Gangsta Rap infiltrating her bedroom walls thanks to her brother and found herself secretly falling in love with a music scene that was forced upon her. Fast forward some years and the clothing range Oink by PIGLET was born.

The first installment to the range, put together through nostalgic memories, includes a selection of screen printed t-shirts with the Hip-Hop artists Big-L, Biggie and Wu-Tang Clan members upon them.

The range has since been extended and includes more influential Hip-Hop artists of the 80′s and 90′s as well as a selection of current underground artists.

Following her graduation from Leeds College of Art & Design with a 2:1 in Fashion & Clothing Design, Charlotte went on to complete brief internships with Vivienne Westwood and Leeds based Tailoring manufacturers Berwin & Berwin. Eventually moving to London to work as a Fashion Designer which saw her work alongside designers including Paul Costelloe & Jimmy Choo, as well as refine her designing skills and knowledge.

Now in May 2012 and the Oink range by Piglet is stocked in Leeds’ own cult store ‘On the Wall’ and sponsors the album ‘The Cat Came Back’ by West Yorkshire Hip-Hop duo ‘Chief Wigz & Sonar Cousin’ which was launched back in April of this year on the UK Record label ‘Don’t Talk to Strangers’.

Adam Yauch aka MCA will always be heard by people who love the material by the Beastie Boys, but it is those that don’t delve beyond ‘Fight for your Right’ and ‘No Sleep Till Brooklyn’ that need to reconsider studying the growth and diversity of this trio.

Adam Yauch battled cancer of the throat and and on this day, 4th May, passed away. At the moment of writing this post it is not 100% that it is cancer that came back but that aside it is a very, very sad day.

My personal experiences based around the Beastie’s material run deep. From the inclusion of their stuff on Plan B skateboard videos to the listening of the ‘Check Your Head’ tape cassette until it burnt out. Very fortunate to have seen them live on a couple of occasions, bought all their vinyl, CD’s, then downloaded all the stuff again for my iPod… bought the mags they were in, bought Adidas Campus trainers because they wore em… the list goes on and on and on.

So when I say that I was crying when I read the news on Twitter I can back that up and tell you that I wasn’t ashamed to. MCA was the last of the Beastie Boys that I warmed to as a fan because Adrock always had that front and coolness which made him stand out and Mike D seemed like the boss who you had to respect. Adam Yauch on the other hand was the man in the background, the man who actually had the voice that made the Beastie Boys complete. Such a voice in fact that it became better with age… just listen to ‘To the 5 Boroughs’.

I don’t want to go on and on because I’d just be taking content from Wikipedia and the likes so I will finish up by saying thank you Adam Yauch … one third of the pioneering group that moulded ‘Generations’. You are already missed, look after him whoever has his hand… you have hold of a legend.
