The year ahead is already being planned, 3 track E.P. in February, another collaboration with DJ Shadow, more supporting of artists, DJing the various festivals and more photo shoots for all you YoYos.

A mix is in the making right now with scratches being laid on a BiiiiiiG track that is gonna bang throughout the year.

HERE IS AN INTRODUCTION TO THE LABEL!!

“Now let me tell you the story of life… the story of life… the story of life…

… the Soul of Man – now watch ‘em! ”

So began the very first recording for a brand-new label, created with just an Atari and a sampler in a sitting room in Shepherds Bush at the turn of the last century. Armed with that first single, Finger Lickin’ Records sprang into life in a tiny office above Bar Vinyl in London’s Camden Town, way back in 1997. Sharing the building also was record shop Vinyl Addiction, and the spot quickly became both a hub and a mecca for the infant breakbeat scene with all the main playas from all walks of dance music coming in for a beer, a gas and a shuffle through the well-stocked shelves.

Founded by Justin Rushmore and Jem Panufnik (aka Soul of Man, and at that point the only artists on the label) Finger Lickin’ immediately started to make waves with the boys’ aforementioned debut release, Love & Hate, but it was their follow-up single Between the Eyes that finally hammered in the label’s reputation for furious futuristic funk, winning support from high-profile DJs such as Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong, Seb Fontaine, Annies Mac and Nightingale, not to mention a veritable army of influential underground DJs like Adam Freeland, Freestylers, Freddy Fresh and Freq Nasty (and they’re just the ones starting with F).

Abel Reynolds was next to join the management team and it wasn’t long before a collection of other DJs and producers were welcomed into the Finger Lickin’ family: Lee Coombs, Plump DJs, Slyde, A-Skilllz and Krafty Kuts all started releasing hugely successful singles, albums and remixes on the label. Drumattic Twins (formerly rave pioneers Shades of Rhythm), Dreadzone, Stereo 8, Brothers Bud, Scott Nixon, Flint, Freaky Jalapeno, Jem Stone & JC and 2 inda Bush also contributed to almost fifteen years of pioneering hip-hop, house and breaks. Collaborations with legends such as Kurtis Blow, Gary Newman and Arthur Baker further cemented Finger Lickin’s reputation as a world leader not only of the breakbeat scene, but in dance music as a whole, its influence undeniable. With no expense spared on their lavish full-colour sleeves (created by in-house artist and co-founder Jem), each release remains to this day hot property for serious collectors and vinyl junkies alike.

In 2009, after more than a decade of prolific activity, their DJs touring the world and with 100 singles, 24 albums plus countless awards and accolades under their belt, Finger Lickin’ decided to put their release schedule on the backburner and concentrate on managing their formidable team of music-makers in their continuing quest to send their solid grooves worldwide. Welcome full-time into the fold such luminaries as Krafty Kuts, the Freestylers, Utah Saints, Deekline, Dub Pistols and a whole heap of past FLR remixers and affiliates, as well as a new wave of fresh hard-funkin’ blood such as Plaza de Funk, Fort Knox 5, The Correspondents, Pimpsoul, Parker and Featurecast.

The story of life continues, and the future is still looking Finger Lickin’ good…

Episode 1 of the Therapy Sessions Radio Show has been and gone but will not be forgotten… you always remember your first time and last nights radio show will live long in my memory.

To say I was buzzing after the show is an understatement. Yes the mic needs replacing and the levels of the mic need some tinkering with but on the whole the show and it’s content were where it needs to be.

It felt natural, well, the first hour was a matter of getting into the swing but when that passed it was rolling.

It’s a pleasure to play amazing music for people who wouldn’t usually get to hear or appreciate it. There is so much out there that needs to be heard and that is where the show will continue to go and grow.

There will be a replay throughout the week and it will be uploaded to MixCloud throughout the week so you’ll get a full track list along with it.

Next show is 23rd December .. make sure you tune in for the Finger Lickin’ Records feature where I’ll have exclusives from Krafty Kuts and A.Skillz as well as playing through some of the labels back catalogue. Gonna be very special.

My performance was billed 1 till 3am .. a cool set time. Before I got there the crowds had the pleasure of watching Redwire who were supported by Matt Abbot, Marsicans and Kascarade.

After a private performance a few miles away I arrived at 12:30, set up and got at it with the creative stuff.

Was a weird one in the beginning as the room cleared for about 15 minutes but then started to fill up again (just some tinkering to be done by the event organisers for next time),  a great thing happened when I did a small set of hip-hop joints, it lit up the room and had the place filling quicker than my toilet after the first morning wee.

From that point on the night was exactly what I wanted it to be .. people in attendance losing their minds and bodily functions to the music being played. As a DJ, the most satisfying thing to feel and experience is that you are doing your job right and bringing people together through your choice of music… that’s what I was feeling last night. Whistles, shouts and shapes being thrown aplenty, tune after tune whether known to the attendees or not.. worked.

Now to sort the content for the Radio Show on Northern Underground.

Already confirmed … new material from Mystro, IRN MNKY, Raine Wilder, No Pretense and a 30 minute feature of Krafty Kuts the World Class DJ/Producer covering past productions and new exclusive music from the king of funky phat beats.

My first Radio Show ‘Therapy Sessions’ starts Friday 9th December and goes out Live from 6 till 8pm, and will go hand in hand with the event ‘Therapy Sessions‘ where I will be residing every Saturday for 2 hours. Big named touring acts will be passing through the doors and the radio show will bring you the news and views on their upcoming and past performances.You can expect an amalgamation of beats and pieces  for the ears that God gave you so make sure you listen in.

As the show progresses I will be bringing big exclusives and cool interviews. Local artists will feature as well as Worldwide stars making rumbles in the musical jungles.

I’m really excited about joining Northern Underground and sharing the internet airwaves with other DJ’s on their roster Graeme Park, Todd Terry, Alistair Whitehead and a man I know Darren Bouthier.

The show is from 6 till 8pm on Fridays and goes out fortnightly starting 9th December.

The ‘Therapy Sessions’ show will then air on the following dates

Dec’ 23rd | Jan’ 6th / 20th | Feb’ 3rd / 17th … I will add the dates as they approach.
